Amazing double blunder in today. Blunders are not that unusual in world championship matches, but returning the favor is!. ~ Garry Kasparov via twitter,

oday's newsletter features a tactic that was missed in today's game 6 in the World Championship match.

   Black to move

   Answer below.

The World Chess Championship Match between World Champion Magnus Carlsen and Challenger Vishy Anand is taking place in Sochi, Russia on November 7-28, 2014.

The event is now at the mid way point with 6 games completed out of 12.

You can see the official site here: http://www.sochi2014.fide.com/

Rounds start at 15:00 Local time, GMT +3, 7am New York, 11pm Melbourne.

The match is being held at the Olympic Media Center located in the Adler City District of Sochi, Imeretinsky Valley, on the Black Sea, next to the Sochi Olympic Park houses and the main Fisht Olympic Stadium. The Olympic Media Center served as the main media hub during the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The Championship match consists of 12 games and if necessary, tie-break games. The time control for the "classical" portion of the match is: 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, 60 minutes for the next 20 moves and then 15 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting after move 61 has been made.

The prize fund is 1 million Euros. The prize fund will be divided 60 percent to the winner and 40 percent to the loser if the match ends within the 12 regular games. In case the winner is decided by tie-break games, the winner shall receive 55 percent and the loser 45 percent.

So far the event has been exciting with 3 wins and 3 draws.  Carlsen is leading 3.5 to 2.5. The games start pretty early (5 AM) here in Colorado (where it has been bitter cold the past week), but I have been able to catch some of the weekday games live on my phone while commuting to work, and on my computer for the weekend games.

BTW, I am not driving and trying to watch chess at the same time :-)  I take a commuter van from Colorado Springs to Aurora everyday, where we take turns driving.

   Answer:

Anand missed a chance to win a valuable pawn with 26...Nxe5!

After 27.Rxg8 black has the nice in between move 27...Nxc4+ 28.Kd3 Nb2+ 29.Ke2 and only now recaptures the rook with 29...Rxg8
