News and Notes
Hey there -- Today I wanted to share a few news and notes from my neck of the woods, and in the chess world.
Tactics Time book in Print

Last week I signed the contract with the people at New in Chess to publish the Tactics Time 1001 Chess Problems book in paperback!

While I love reading books on my Kindle, I realize there are still a lot of people who prefer to read traditional paperback books, so this will be perfect, and the best of both worlds.

The book is going to have to be completely reformatted, and will look similar to the book
1001 Chess Exercises for Beginners: The Tactics Workbook that Explains the Basic Concepts, Too by Franco Masetti and Roberto Messa (Jun 16, 2012).

The price will be $16.95.  I am not sure exactly when the book will be available, but I will keep you posted!

I've had a couple people ask me recently "Why aren't you on twitter?"

I actually have been using twitter for years (since April 16, 2009 to be exact), and I am pretty active on there.

So if you use twitter, be sure to follow me!  My handle is @TacticsTime.  I will follow you back.

There are a lot of chess people on twitter, and it is fun to read their posts, and interact with them.
US Championships

The US Chess Championship ended last week, with GM Gata Kamsky winning his fourth title in an exciting Armageddon game against GM Alejandro Ramirez.

The coverage of the event was OUTSTANDING.  I was super impressed.  They had Jennifer Shahade, Yasser Seriwan and Maurice Ashley giving live commentary and analysis of the games.  You could actually watch the players playing, and send tweets to interact with the broadcasters, such as asking questions.  It was a lot of fun, and they did an amazing job.
Recent and Upcoming Tournaments
Gentlemens' Chess
I played in The Bobby Fischer Memorial tournament two weekends ago in Monument, CO, which was a lot of fun.  Fred Spell and Joe Fromme of the Gentlemen's Chess Club did a very nice job as always.  I had to put on my "big boy pants" and play in the open section, since my rating has gone up recently.  There was even a Grandmaster at the tournament, Tejas Bakre of India, who scored a perfect 4-0.

Paul Anderson wrote a funny newsletter about the tournament as well, which you can read here: http://cschess.webs.com/apps/blog/entries/show/26391585-bobby-fischer-memorial.

This weekend I will be playing in Randy Reynolds ' "Denver Memorial Day Weekend G/30", which should be fun.  The USCF recently changed their rating formula, to increase the "K" given to higher rated players, so I will be curious to see how this will look in action.  There is also a scholastic tournament being held on Saturday in Denver.

I will also be playing in the National Open in Las Vegas next month which should be fun!  I have played there several times in the past.  I will be meeting my chess "wing man" Francisco Baltier there.
