Anthea and I realized while we were making our Flagship book,
Tactics Time! 1001 Chess Tactics from the Games of Everyday Chess Players, that there was a real lack of chess books for absolute beginners, and very low rated players.
Anthea's daughter Tara, for example, is rated around 400. A lot of the problems that we threw out of TT1001 because they were "too easy", were actually quite perfect for someone like Tara.
Even chess books that are marketed to children, such as "How to Beat Your Dad at Chess", are actually quite challenging to beginning players. They immediately jump into 3-4 move combinations and mating patterns.
We take the different approach. We feel that you need to learn to crawl before you can walk. This book is for the people who are still in the "learn to crawl" phase.
The problems in this book are things like - a piece is hanging, and you need to capture it.
Anthea has a lot of experience with working with kids. She has an expression that is a take off on "In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king". She says "In the land of scholastic chess, the player who can see one move captures is king".
So, even if this book is too easy for you (which I suspect it is), I would love it if you would download a copy, and check it out. If you see any errors or corrections, or have any feedback please let me know.
Also, If you have any friends or family that you think would like the book, please feel free to let them know, so they can get a free copy!
Thanks so much for your support!
