Happy New Year
"We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day." ~Edith Lovejoy Pierce

Best Wishes for 2013!
Happy New Year, -- Hope that you win a lot of games in 2013, and have lots of success on your journey of chess improvement!

Now is a good time to reflect on what your goals are for chess, and set some goals for 2013.  Maybe there is a big tournament that you always wanted to play in.  Perhaps there is a rating level you want to achieve, or an opponent that you have always wanted to beat.  Make 2013 the year that your chess dreams become a reality!
Colorado Chess Informant Magazine

Instead of a chess tactic, I wanted to let you know that the new January 2013 issue of the Colorado Chess Informant magazine is out, and available for free online.

You can access it here: http://www.coloradochess.com/informant/January%202013.pdf

The magazine is 52 pages long in PDF format.  Fred Spell, the editor, did a great job.  The Colorado Chess Community is really fortunate to have Fred, who does a super job.

My "Tactics Time" column appears on page 25.

Grandmaster Alex Fishbein wrote a review of "Tactics Time 1001", the new book by myself and Anthea Carson, which was really amazing.

Chris Peterson wrote a really good article with some ideas on how to improve chess tournaments.

Jeff Baffo has some entertaining game annotations.

Brad Lundstrom wrote a beautiful tribute to Life Master Brian Wall, which is one of the best articles I have ever seen.

Joe Fromme wrote a great article about his trip to Iceland to pay tribute to Bobby Fischer, which I also really enjoyed.

I think you will enjoy the issue.
